Born in Berlin. International career as cello soloist, concertizing all over Europe, Asia and the US. Especially popular are his concerts with all 6 solo suites by Bach and his concerto performances. Exclusive recording artist with Sony classical since 2001. 40 albums to date, has won many awards including Diapason d’Or, Echo Klassik, European cultural award, Order of merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Has performed with some of the greatest orchestras in the world, like New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Gewandhaus Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic and NHK Symphony and some of the most famous conductors like Fabio Luisi, Lorin Maazel, Manfred Honeck or Daniele Gatti. Jan has also become famous for creating projects outside the classical music scene, like ‘New Worlds’ with actor Bill Murray and collaborations with Eric Clapton or Amanda Gorman.
