Metal

HELGRIND formed in the year 2000 as the thrash metal genre was slowly being overtaken by nu metal as the spotlight alternative genre. The band, after 5 years of successful gigging with the likes of death metal titans OBITUARY, and multiple line-up changes, released their debut album “DENIAL” which would go on to cement the bands place within the scene. The aggressive; punk-esq assault on the scene provided HELGRIND the platform necessary to build their own cult following across parts of Europe and the underground circuit within the UK. The same year “DENIAL” was released would also go on to be the same year the band would then also get the opportunity to play with the likes of HECATE, ENTHRONED and RETURN TO THE SABBAT.

Two years later in 2007, the group would go on to develop and create their own flavour of thrash with their debut EP “FALLEN PROPHET”. This EP would also go on to produce the band’s first music video featuring the song “One Solution”. Playing to packed out venues and selling their entire stock of merchandise became the norm for HELGRIND, though it wasn’t until the release of their second studio album “RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION” in 2008 that the band would be dubbed “Thrash metal icons” by prominent underground magazine “ClassicThrash”. This was also the first time the band experimented with melodic and clean guitars, further developing their original sound. It was clear by this point that HELGRIND meant business, the band wore their inspirations on their sleeves, with the most notable being SLAYER and SEPULTURA, making the band applicable to all extreme metal enjoyers whilst still tapping into their more melodic side with songs like “Violation” and their fan favourite “Death Squad” from the “RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION” release.

As the new decade approaches, the band released their critically acclaimed third studio album “INQUISITION” featuring setlist staples “Burn”, “Black Rain” and a re-release of DENIAL’s “Prophecy of Destruction”. The band then went on to release their second music video featuring INQUISITION’s “Evil Inside”.

HELGRIND would continue to play shows, and to tour Europe, playing to sold out venues and even had a drink named after them in Vienna’s “Escape”.

In 2015 the band wrote their fourth studio release “INSURRECTION” set to be released in 2016. Unfortunately, due to label disagreements, the album wouldn’t go on to be released until 2021 when the group signed with Metal Rocka records. Despite this, the band still put out their third notable music video featuring the track “Dead Army” in 2015.

From 2016 to 2019, HELGRIND would go on to play festivals such as Rock Am Brink in Germany and headline S8 Underground Festival in Budapest, plus complete their first major Continental European tour playing 13 shows in 8 countries to continue their growth and fanbase before playing 28 shows in the UK.

Come 2020, the band would soon embark on part two of their “Live Thrash Die” tour, which included HRH Metal at o2 Birmingham2. Though the tour came to a sharp end on account of the infamous COVID-19 virus, the band didn’t leave empty handed.

A brief halt in proceedings in 2021 as Paula Nelson recovers from a road traffic accident which left her needing to learn to walk again, the “Back from the Dead” tour was being booked for the following year.

In 2022, depsite Paula’s pelvis factures not fusing properly the band toured the UK, playing sold out shows across England and Scotland, including their first main stage performance at Hammerfest which took place at o2 Birmingham.

Helgrind were the main support for ACID REIGN’s “Tour of entitlement” in early 2023 where the band also once again played main stage at Hammerfest. After the ACID REIGN tour concluded, the band went on to act as main support for legendary punk band, DISCHARGE, at Beermageddon festival.

In 2023 the band recruited former OUTRIGHT RESISTANCE drummer, Michael O’Neill as the group head into the studio to write and record their sixth studio recording.

In 2025 another addition to the ranks with Mike Worlsey also formerly of OUTRIGHT RESISTANCE joined on bass.
