The brainchild of NYC-based musician Elijah Catrone, Father Before Me emerged during the summer of 2019 as a punk rock passion project honoring its founder’s late father. Originally a purely solo project channeling Elijah’s lifelong career as a songwriter, vocalist, and multi- instrumentalist, Father Before Me made its public debut with a self-written and self-performed debut EP, Emerald, followed up less than a year later with a sophomore EP, Ruby, together rapidly cementing Elijah’s reputation as an innovator in the scene — and the rest was history.
Building on influences from Bayside and AFI to Iron Maiden and Avenged Sevenfold via a thematic detour through the wider sci-fi and fantasy canons, Father Before Me’s signature sound — a distinct blend of pop, skate, and prog punk with a post-hardcore edge — pairs catchy metal riffs, fast-paced punk rhythms, and progressive instrumentation with a lyrical approach that pays respect to those who came before, shows gratitude for those currently here, and paves the way for those to come.
Now, with momentum at an all-time high following the successful release show for his latest EP, Sapphire, as well as his first headline gig, Elijah remains hard at work as he prepares for Father Before Me’s biggest year yet. A Canadian tour is already in the cards for July, alongside plans for a slew of live dates across the East Coast, West Coast, and Europe, all to be announced in due time, much to the delight of a diverse and growing fanbase.
