Mamar is a world-jazz ensemble weaving together nostalgia, longing, and the contradictions of being human.
With members from the U.S., Turkey, Italy, Syria, and the Netherlands, their music blends cinematic landscapes—desert winds, dark mountain peaks, silent nights—with the depth of jazz and folk traditions from the Middle East.
All five members of Mamar are accomplished musicians, each with a strong background in jazz as well as Turkish and Arabic musical traditions. They met while studying at Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, where they all graduated with high honors. Their shared education and diverse roots laid the foundation for a deep musical connection and an authentic, genre-crossing sound.
Their debut album, which they’ve also named Mamar, can be translated as “aisle” or “pathway.” For them, it was a way through a difficult time—a period in which consequences had to be faced, new realities accepted, and grief gradually gave way to acceptance and release.
They hope their music touches listeners and offers a moment of stillness and peace in a world that so often feels chaotic and harsh.
Without your ears, our music would be only from us, for us— everything becomes more beautiful when shared.
