Hessel Moeselaar is a viola player and electronic composer. In his electro-acoustic live sets, he weaves the warm, melancholic sound of the viola with modular synthesizers and live electronics. The result is cinematic and layered – constantly evolving, dreamy and captivating.
In 2025, he released the singles Drifting Echoes and New Life as a prelude to his debut album, which will be released later this year by the label Doorway Music.
Hessel has previously performed at renowned stages and festivals including Down The Rabbit Hole, De Melkweg, Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Grachtenfestival and Ruigoord. He was also part of Popronde 2024. In 2026, Hessel will compose and perform the music for ‘Wat Als’, the new theater tour by acclaimed actor Nasrdin Dchar.
‘The melancholic sound of the viola blends beautifully with the electronic textures, creating an almost reverent silence in the Stevenskerk’
‘It’s understandable that this music makes you want to drift away – but watching one man create it all, connecting the analog and the digital so smoothly, is something we’d rather keep our eyes wide open for.’
