Pianist Hannes Minnaar en het Dudok Kwartet kruisen de degens met acteurs Jan Decleir en Georgina Verbaan in een hyperactuele editie van Spraakmakers over erfelijk koningschap en angst in de samenleving. Met werken van Beethoven en Roukens krijgen de maatschappelijk o zo relevante thema’s diepgang en genuanceerd muzikaal commentaar. Fear No More Beethovens Les Adieux is de prikkelende muziek achter het relaas van acteur Jan Decleir. De man die zelf vele koningsrollen speelde, vraagt zich af of erfelijk koningschap nog wel past in deze tijd. Actrice Georgina Verbaan gooit het over een andere boeg en beschouwt onder de titel Fear No More de hedendaagse angstcultuur. What Remains van Joey Roukens is daarbij de perfecte, gekmakende muziek. Beklijvend muziektheater Sinds de eerste editie in 2022 is Spraakmakers snel een begrip geworden. De formule van een klassiek of recenter werk gecombineerd met vraagstukken van deze tijd staat garant voor een nieuwe concertbeleving. Tekst en muziek versterken elkaar in beklijvend muziektheater met maatschappelijke relevantie. Zeker als toonaangevende acteurs het podium delen met rasmusici.
The Dudok Quartet Amsterdam aims to show that music affects people; that music can lead us to profundity and connection especially when it provokes friction. The true meaning of music reveals itself in a shared experience in which you, as a listener, play a vital role.
In repertoire ranging from Ligeti, Shostakovich and Bacewicz through to Mendelssohn, Mozart and Beethoven, the Dudok Quartet constantly strives to forge new pathways and connections in music. Their intelligent approach and flair for programming sees them regularly perform their own arrangements of pieces and they have so far produced arrangements of composers including Gesualdo, Desprez, Shostakovich, Brahms and Messiaen. The Quartet is also committed to commissioning new works and has collaborated with composers including Joey Roukens, Peter Vigh and Theo Loevendie . 2024 sees the Quartet premiere a new piece from British-Lebanese composer Bushra El-Turk, co-commissioned for the Dudok by the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam, West Cork Chamber Music Festival and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust. Another current repertoire highlight sees the Quartet undertake performances of Steve Reich’s Different Trains, for which the players have made their own new recording of the accompanying tape track.
