Tell it to the Sky is a new series of six songs for baritone, piano and cello, based on texts by poets currently living (and surviving) in Gaza: Mohammed Mousa, Adel al Ramadi, Samar al Ghussein, and Hala Salah. Their poignant poetry captures both hope and despair — hope for surviving another day, for reuniting with a loved one, for rain and flowers; and despair over lost friends and family amid the seemingly endless slaughter, destruction, hunger, and chaos.

Maarten Ornstein has set six of these poems to music for baritone, cello and piano. Tonight marks the premiere performance.

Performers: Mattijs van de Woerd – baritone Nuala McKenna – cello Antonii Baryshevskyi – piano
